Sugar Stinkies Solved: The Brushies!
Let me tell you a secret. Babies? They kinda stink. Not in a "they suck" kind of way (although they do that sometimes, too), but in a "they smell" one. Be it their diapers, those yummy but not-so-yummy neck rolls or their breath, sometimes that angelic baby scent we often long for is nowhere to be sniffed! Since starting solids in particular, I've noticed that my son's gummy, little toothless mouth is now devoid of the sweet milk scent which once lingered. Now that my kid eats, his breath stanks! Even though he stills has no teeth, I figured it was time to start brushing those gums to clear away any lingering food, sugar or stench. Enter The Brushies!
We got to test this awesome product out through fellow blogger, Michelle, over at ihelpmoms.com and boy, are we so happy we did! The Brushies is the world's first finger puppet toothbrush. Yes, it is mutually as cute as it is useful, just like it sounds. The Brushies were created by two mommy doctors, and are 100% U.S. made, from the recycled packaging, to the chemical-free board book, to the BPA & phthalate-free food grade silicon tooth brush, which you can purchase here. These products are recommended for ages 4 weeks-4 years, so definitely appropriate for a wide range! The Brushies are smooth and pliable, perfect for tiny mouths. Each little finger puppet tooth brush comes loaded with soft bristles for gentle scrubbing, and come in four different colors and characters to choose from. I love knowing that the products I use with my baby are safely made, and I'm sure you do, as well!
We used our Chomps the Dino brush on our 8 month old son who seems to have a tooth coming soon, as he's been teething like mad for about three weeks or so. Noah absolutely loved the sensation of The Brushies on his gums! Not only did he comply with brushing, he did it happily and smiling. I was totally thrilled with his reaction, as this was our first time using any kind of toothbrush product. We loved the product so much, we made a little video to capture our baby's reaction (skip to 2:24 for just baby cuteness).
Dental hygiene can be a nightmare with kids, so I'm hoping that this early and pleasant introduction is something that will ease him into good habits in the years to come! The Brushies are available with a sweet board book accompaniment that shares with kids why brushing is important in a fun and relatable way, including bright, colorful illustrations. It is a bit of a longer story, so definitely one to read with older children, but still fun for baby to look at and play with as it's made with sturdy board materials. When we used the finger puppet brush, we simply brushed with warm water, as I'm yet to do research on when to use toothpaste and what types to consider. If you have any suggested products, please leave them in the comments section below! Clean up is also super simple; just wash with warm water & soap, or pop it in your dishwasher basket! I really loved The Brushies, as did my little guy, so I hope you'll find something to love as well, if you're in the market for keeping your own baby's teeth & gums clean!
